For Small Online Retailers, Storeboard An Absolute MUST!
Over the years, dozens of small business directory/networking/mini-site/blogging sites (sites like Storeboard) have popped up, a couple of them have even grown, developed a following with a couple even thriving. However, as an experienced internet entrepreneur, while I've always recognized the value in these sites, for any novices out there reading this suffice it to say that said value had nothing to do whatsoever with direct conversions (people who saw the ad on the site, clicked it and would up buying something). You could practically be giving away free gold with no shipping charge and you'd fave a difficult time finding real, paying customers from the list of sites whose names pop-up when discussing Storeboard's potential competitors (out of respect for SB, I won't be naming these sites in this article).
Don't get me wrong, these sites have been essential to my business' maketing efforts - at least as it pertains to the online component of the business. However, their value has always lied more with the impact in organic use by a company of these sites and their features. This is a process that can take half a year or longer depending upon which markets one competes within between the time one does the actual work (sustained over said period) and the time the work actually begins to yield results.
While obviously this strategy has its place in the long-term marketing plan of a business planning to sell online direct-to-consumer, it does little to boost the short-term sales of a company struggling to survice during that ever-so-critical phase of small business development at the very inception until startup loans are fully repaid. Thus, a company on a low budget for marketing must use every dollar and every minute of employee time effectively in order to succeed in reaching that critical mass of business volume (sales) after which the death of the company is far less likely, and far more likely to be the result of genuinely bad decision-making by top leadership in the event it does occur (as opposed to general start-up challenges facing every new business that isn't founded with tens of millions in start-up funds guaranteed from the get-go).
Thus, this obsevation by the employee of this Covington medical equipment company employee may be of extreme significance to other e-commerce start-ups around the world if in fact the sales were not an abberation (which this author suspects they were not). For one, the coupon was only for a 5% discount. By the time shipping costs are added to the total, the discount as stated on the coupon had been largely if not entirely negated. Point being, it in itself is hardly enough motivation for one to make an impulsive purchase decision for a product that is need-driven as opposed to want-driven.
While more research will certainly be needed (and the time conducting it well justified), the results of Egan Medical's first experiment with coupons and deals exclusive to Storeboard members was an unprecedente success. In light of this irrefutable reality, Egan Medical Equipment & Supply is going to be increasing both the number of Storeboard member-only coupons, as well as the value of the promo codes.
The company will be announcing these special deals exclusive to other Storeboard members (small business owners & top employees) both in the Coupons secion of the Egan Medical Equipment profile, as well as on both the official Egan Medical Equipment Storeboard blog and the official Egan Medical Equipment and Supply Blog.
Egan Medical's official blog covers a wide variety of topics related to medical equipment, home health care, nursing, physical/occupational therapy, injuries and the products that both prevent them and help them heal, industry news and yes, product information. This last bit (product info) is particularly true when speaking in reference to specials, deals, coupons and other promotions and/or promotional codes. Egan tries its very best to come up with new ideas for specials and other ways to help save people money, and the company appears to enjoy the game involved with the use of different media to announce different promotions.
Anyway, the actual web address for the (for now anyway) official Egan Medical Supply Blog is http://eganmedical.blogspot.com. Simply remove the ".blogspot" to reach Egan's official website (the main site) directly.
While some have criticized this technique, customers can still call Egan anytime during business hours (Central Time), and one can never know what types of discount or freebie one might have received unless he or she asks for it.
The bottom line is that Egan will be offering a variety of discounts in a variety of ways, both here on Storeboard as well as on our own official company website and blog. We might just have a little something in store for those who call us to place an order, or with inquiries regarding potential discounts and deals.
